Short Film Competition:

  • 1. This is a short film festival. Submitted films should be 30 minutes long maximum (including credits). There is no minimum running time.
  • 2. The festival is open to any Egyptian. It does not matter if you are an established filmmaker or not, we want to hear your voice and story.
  • 3. We have three categories: documentaries, animation or narrative films. You can submit one film per category.
  • 4. Filmmakers with feature films are not eligible to enter the competition.
  • 5. There are no fees for submission.
  • 6. You may submit films that have been screened previously. There is no premiere status.
  • 7. You must be at least 18 years old to submit to the festival.
  • 8. Submitted films must have been produced after January 1st, 2014.
  • 9. Submissions open December 22nd.
  • 10. The last day to submit is February 28th
  • 11. To submit your film, please fill out our application form and upload your film. Click here to submit!
  • 12. If you are submitting a film in a language other than Arabic please be sure to add Arabic subtitles.
  • 13. Films submitted must be in the following format: .mp4
  • 14.The festival is made up of two rounds of review. The first round will be for the acceptance to the festival and the second round of review will determine which of the accepted films will premiere at the ‘Best of the Fest’ screening and reception on the 6th of ’May (location to be determined).
  • 15. All the filmmakers are invited to the ‘Best of the Fest’ screening.
  • 16. All the accepted films will be screened at different venues around Cairo on May 4th and 5th (locations yet to be determined).
  • 17. Acceptance to the Festival and the Best of the Fest screening will be sent out at least one week prior.
  • 18. If you are chosen to participate in ‘Best of the Fest’ your film will compete to win the following three prizes:
    • a. Best Documentary: Determined by the jury. A cash prize of 30,000 Egyptian Pounds will be awarded.
    • b. Best Narrative: Determined by the jury. A cash prize of 30,000 Egyptian Pounds will be awarded.
    • c. Best Animation: Determined by the jury. A cash prize of 30,000 Egyptian Pounds will be awarded.
    • d. The Audience Award: Determined by votes made during each screening. A cash prize of 10,000 Egyptian Pounds will be awarded.

Online Student Film Competition:

  • 1. This is an online short film festival for students. Submitted films should be 20 minutes long maximum (including credits). There is no minimum running time.
  • 2. The festival is open to any Egyptian. It does not matter if you are an established filmmaker or not, we want to hear your voice and story.
  • 3. We have three categories: documentaries, animation or narrative films. You can submit one film per category.
  • 4. You must submit a student ID, a letter from your University/School or proof that you were a student at the time of production.
  • 5. There are no fees for submission.
  • 6. You may submit films that have been screened previously. There is no premiere status.
  • 7. You must be at least 18 years old to submit to the festival.
  • 8. Submitted films must have been produced after January 1st, 2014.
  • 9. Submissions open December 22nd.

b. Best Narrative: Determined by the jury. A cash prize of 15,000 Egyptian Pounds will be awarded.

c. Best Animation: Determined by the jury. A cash prize of 15,000 Egyptian Pounds will be awarded.

d. The Audience Award: Determined by online votes. A cash prize of 10,000 Egyptian Pounds will be awarded.
